Referrals and Admissions

At Bay View Childcare, we are committed to providing a safe, warm, and nurturing environment where every child matters. Our referral process is designed to ensure that every placement is the right match for both the young person and our existing home communities.

Our Admissions Philosophy

We believe that a successful placement begins with careful planning. While we prefer admissions to be on a planned basis, we recognise the urgent needs of Local Authorities. We are often able to consider same-day placements for authorities with whom we have established, close working relationships.

The Referral Process

  1. Initial Inquiry: Local Authorities can contact our management team to discuss potential referrals.
  2. Comprehensive Review: We require detailed referral paperwork to begin our matching process.
  3. Impact Risk Assessment: Every referral undergoes an extensive impact risk assessment. This evaluates the potential impact the young person may have on the home and current residents, as well as the impact the home environment may have on them.
  4. Care Planning Meeting: Before any placement is approved, a care planning meeting is held to ensure all parties are aligned on the young person’s needs and goals.
  5. Matching and Integration: Upon admission, each young person is carefully matched with a Senior Key Worker who acts as their primary advocate and building block of trust.

Emergency and Same-Day Placements

For same-day referrals, we maintain the following standards to ensure stability:

  • Suitability Check: Referral paperwork must suggest a strong potential match with the current residents.
  • Planning Call: A telephone planning meeting is required as a minimum before a same-day admission.
  • Initial Assessment Period: These placements are typically for an initial 28-day period.
  • Early Review: A 72-hour review is conducted to assess the care plan, followed by a formal Looked After Children (CLA) review to determine longer-term suitability.

Our Commitment to Inclusion

Bay View Childcare operates under a strict anti-discriminatory policy. We welcome referrals for young people regardless of ethnicity, religious beliefs, or sexual orientation. We work in partnership with families and social workers to facilitate religious observations, dietary requirements, and cultural connections.

Transition and Independence

Many of our homes offer specialised facilities, such as independent living annexes, to support young people as they transition toward semi-independence. We also provide formal outreach support for up to six months after a young person moves on to ensure a successful transition into the community.
