Young People’s Views

At Bay View Childcare, we believe that every young person should feel heard, understood and involved in shaping their own care. Creating an environment where young people can share their views openly and confidently is central to our approach across all of our homes.

We recognise that having a voice is key to building confidence, independence and a sense of control, and we work hard to ensure that every young person knows their opinions matter.

Listening to Young People

Listening is at the heart of everything we do. We create opportunities for young people to share their thoughts, feelings and experiences in ways that feel comfortable and meaningful to them.

This could be through day-to-day conversations, key worker sessions, house meetings or more formal feedback processes. We take time to really understand what each young person is saying, recognising that communication can look different for everyone.

By listening carefully and consistently, we help young people feel respected, valued and understood.

Involving Young People in Decisions

Young people are actively involved in decisions about their lives and their care. From contributing to their individual plans to helping shape routines and activities within the home, their input is encouraged and valued.

We support young people to understand the choices available to them and help them to express their preferences, ensuring they feel part of the process.

This involvement helps to build confidence, develop decision-making skills and promote a sense of ownership over their future.

Advocacy and Speaking Up

We ensure that young people know their rights and feel confident to speak up if they are unhappy or concerned about any aspect of their care.

Young people are supported to access advocacy services if they wish, and staff are always available to help them raise concerns or make a complaint in a safe and supportive way. We promote an open and honest culture where feedback is welcomed and acted upon.

By empowering young people to speak up, we help them to build confidence, independence and self-advocacy skills.

Respect and Empowerment

Our homes are built on a culture of respect, where every young person’s voice is important. We respond to feedback thoughtfully and use it to improve both individual care and the overall environment within our homes.

Young people are encouraged to reflect on their experiences, celebrate their achievements and feel proud of their progress.

By placing young people at the centre of everything we do, we create environments where they feel empowered, confident and supported to shape their own lives and futures.

Religion, Culture and Anti-Discrimination

We recognise that identity is shaped by culture, beliefs, experiences and individuality, and we actively promote understanding, acceptance and equality across all of our homes.

Enjoyment and Positive Relationships

Through positive relationships and shared experiences, we create nurturing homes where young people feel a true sense of belonging and can build confidence for their future.
