Staff and young people from Glenfield, one of our Bay View children’s homes, are busy fundraising for local children and families who are going through challenging times.
Inspired by a young person living at Glenfield who has recently moved on to semi-independence, staff have become much more aware of the struggles faced when leaving care, such as being able to afford food and basic housing supplies, and would like to raise further awareness of this in the local area.
Morecambe Foodbank is a local service used by children moving on from residential care, as well as families. In fact, between 1 December 2022 and 30 November 2023, Morecambe Foodbank have helped to feed 7,806 families in Lancaster and the surrounding areas.
Danielle Hodgson, Registered Manager of Glenfield home, said: “We would like to raise awareness of the struggles of our young people leaving care, and at the same time help people in our local community who are struggling in this cost of living crisis.”
The team at Glenfield have put together a programme of charity events, named the ‘Bay View Banter Extravaganza’, where staff and young people are undertaking cold water dips, filmathons, gaming marathons and getting involved in various productions for in-house viewing entertainment!
To mark the end of the fundraising extravaganza, Glenfield are putting on a mini awards ceremony in March with music and entertainment where they will announce winners of competitions, celebrate young people, and Operations Director, Chris, will be shaving off his hair!
Staff and young people alike have worked really hard to organise fundraising activities. Please help us raise even more that last year for what is a wonderful community lifeline.
